Feodosiya

Town is situated on the coast of the spacious Feodosiya creek, from the south-east close with the mountain Tepe-Oba, from the west – mountain Bold. In spite the fact that north-east winds could come to the town, bring in summer dry and hot and in winter cold air the do not exert the great influence on the climate of Fiodosiya.

Beaches with sea sand and ground shells do not worse than Evpatorian one, and spread for many mils to north-east.
Near from Fiodosiya there are lakes with medical mud and sources of drinking brackish water, which use in sanatoriums of the town and far from it.

Fiodosiya is one of the oldest towns of the world. Archeological resources showed that background of surroundings of the town is starting in depth of thousand years, in ancient stone century: near the mountain Falcon and on the high water-partings to the south from Fiodosiya are founded Paleolithic flinty tools.
Near the middle of VI B.C. at the seashore of Fiodosiya bay got out Greeks. They established small colony-factory which later became ordinary Greek town with port which was called Fiodosiya. Near 380 B.C. Fiodosiya was occupied by troops of bosporskiy emperor Levkon I.


First centuries A.D. was marked by Feodosiya by incursions by Sarmatians, Goths and finally Huns which led to the death of Bobsporsk Empire. Town was destroyed.

In V-VI centuries on this place is settlement, which according to the anonymous author of that period, “on Alanskiy or Taurus dialect calls Ardabda”.

In 70-80s of XIII century on the place of ancient Feodosiya, Genoese established their trade factory Kafa. During two centuries Kafa was strong and administrative center of Genoese colonies in Crimea.

In 1475 Kafa were occupied by Turs, who renamed it in Kefe. Only after joininf Crimea to Russia town got its ancient name – Feodosiya.
